2025 Term 3 Week 6
Loving God,
We thank You for the gift of fathers, grandfathers, and all those who are like fathers to us.
Bless them with patience, wisdom, and strength as they guide and care for their families.
May they know the joy of their children’s love and the gratitude of their families.
Keep them in Your care and fill their hearts with peace. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
Don’t forget, dads and carers, to join us for our Father’s Day Breakfast followed by the Liturgy at 9:30am. This is a small token of our appreciation for everything you do, and we look forward to sharing this special occasion with you.
Father’s Day Stall
– Gifts & Helpers Needed!
Our Father’s Day Stall is coming up next week, and we need your help to make it a success!
-
Gifts: We are crying out for donations of small gifts suitable for dads, grandads, and carers. Items such as socks, mugs, chocolates, tools, toiletries, or other practical gifts are always popular. Please send these in with your child by early next week.
-
Helpers:
-
Thursday (set-up): We need volunteers to help us set up during the day and again in the afternoon.
-
Friday morning: Helpers are also needed to assist students in selecting and their special gifts.
-
Your support makes this special tradition possible, and the students absolutely love choosing a gift for their dad or carer. Thank you for any way you can help—we couldn’t do it without you!
Student Artwork Showcased and Published
Most recently, St Joseph’s students were involved in designing and illustrating pages for a special book, with the artwork proudly displayed at the Goulburn Square Shopping Centre.
We take this opportunity to thank Alyssa A, Ella-Rose G, Leo G, Lilly T, Lexi R, Amelia LJ, Amity WP, Harry C, Scarlett D, Tiger-Lily C, Ava OB, Emerson W, Lexi JC, and Oliver E for their wonderful contributions and creative artworks.
Yesterday we received some very exciting news—three of our students, Harry, Evelyn, and Chelsea B, will have their illustrations published in the book! Even more fantastic, Harry’s illustration has been chosen for the front cover.
We are eagerly looking forward to the book being published and copies arriving in our school library for all to enjoy.
Congratulations to all our talented students for using your gifts and creativity to support such a special project.
SRC News
A big thank you to our SRC and to Mrs Walsh for all the wonderful work they are doing for our school behind the scenes. Their efforts continue to make a real difference for our students.
They have an important message to share about the Chess Club, which has already kicked off with plenty of interest, as well as the Return & Earn projects they have taken on to support students across our school.
We are grateful for their leadership and initiative—well done!
Chess Club
This week we began our Chess Club! The SRC are excited to be hosting each Tuesday break 1, anyone who wants to learn more about the game of Chess!
We have some experts assisting each week, so come along and have some fun participating in the sport of Chess!
Return & Earn
After many requests, the SRC are looking forward to helping with keeping our playground clean and protecting our planet by reinstating this initiative.
We will be collecting your empty drink containers (fruit boxes, milk, chill J’s etc) to recycle through the Return & Earn scheme. Hopefully this will cut our rubbish footprint and raise some funds for SRC activities at school!
Great success at the Northern Region Public Speaking Competition
On Friday, 22 August 2025, St Joseph’s was very proud to send our talented public speakers to St Mary’s, Crookwell to participate in the Northern Region Public Speaking Competition.
Our students competed against peers from Ss' Peter and Paul’s (Goulburn), St Mary’s (Crookwell), St Bede’s (Braidwood), St Gregory’s (Queanbeyan) and Mt Carmel (Yass).
The competition was of an exceptionally high standard. Judges commented on the impressive quality of speeches, the breadth of topics explored, and the fabulous talent and bright futures of all the speakers.
We extend our warm congratulations to all who participated—St Joseph’s is incredibly proud of you all!

Head Lice Reminder
We have recently had some reported cases of head lice (nits) in the school. While this is a common occurrence in all schools, it is important that we work together to minimise the spread.
We kindly ask parents and carers to:
-
Check your child’s hair regularly for signs of head lice.
-
If lice or eggs are found, begin treatment immediately and continue to check daily.
-
Notify the school if your child has lice so we can monitor cases appropriately.
-
Remind children not to share hats, hairbrushes, or hair ties.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep our school community healthy and comfortable.
Privilege Students
May God bless you and your families

Gospel
22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time
Luke 14:1,7-14 When you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.
Meals played an important role in the society in which Jesus lived. More than a time for sharing nourishment, it was a time to share ideas and to model different aspects of social relationships. Jesus warns guests to wait before taking their places at the table lest they be asked to move if someone more important arrives. This is more than just a lesson about dinner etiquette. It is advice on how to find your true place in the Kingdom of God. Jesus advises hosts not to invite people who would be expected to repay them to dinner but to invite those who could not repay: the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. This is where real blessings can be found.
Father's Day Liturgy
Come join us Tuesday 2nd September for our Father's Day Prayer Focus. It will start at 9:30am in OLOF, following the Father's Day Breakfast in the school hall starting at 8.20am.
Seats will be available for family members at the back of the church to sit with their child/ren, with specific areas designated for the classes. As the church fills with the students, other places will be available amongst the classes for families to sit with their child/ren. Towards the end of the Prayer Focus, we will invite fathers, grandfathers, step fathers, uncles etc to come towards front of the church for a blessing.
The church is a reverent and sacred space, please be mindful of noise and chatter, setting an example to not talk, especially during the Liturgy. Please note: no food or drink should be taken into the church, except for babies, toddlers or people with a medical condition.
Confirmation
Confirmation sessions continue this week. 4pm in the Brigid's (old school house next to Ss' Peter & Paul's Cathedral), Thursday 28th August, 4th September & 11th September. Please remember to bring the red folder, pencil cases and any notes/paper work eg: copy of Baptismal certificate, Saint's name, Sacramental Mass preference etc.
Chelsea's NSW team Crowned National Champions!
We are thrilled to share the incredible news that Chelsea has represented New South Wales at the Australian Championships in Bendigo—and finished as a National Champion!
The tournament began with a spectacular Opening Ceremony, before Chelsea and her teammates took to the field. As Co-Captain of the NSW side, Chelsea played a key role in leading her team with pride, skill, and determination.
NSW dominated the competition, recording victories over all other states. Their outstanding teamwork and resilience saw them finish on top, making NSW the number one!
This is a truly remarkable achievement and a reflection of Chelsea’s hard work, talent, and leadership. To be named Co-Captain at a national tournament and to lift the championship title is a memory she and her family will cherish forever.
A huge congratulations to Chelsea—your school community is so proud of you!
A comment from Chelsea-
My Experience in the NSW Team
''Being selected in the NSW team and named Co-Captain was a real honour. To then go through the tournament undefeated made the experience even more special.
Throughout the week, our team worked together so well—there were no “drama queens,” just a great group of players who played with pride. From Sunday through to Friday, it was an unforgettable experience.
One highlight outside of the competition was our team excursion to the 'Central Deborah Gold Mine' on Wednesday, as we had a day away from the hockey fields. It was a fantastic opportunity to bond as a team and enjoy something different together.
Overall, this was a wonderful experience, one that I will always remember.''

Canteen News
Volunteers most welcome, please email the canteen canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au
Our school canteen is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Orders need to be placed by Qkr! before 8:30am on the day of order.
Whilst we understand accidents happen it does place a large strain on our canteen and office staff to assist in these situations.
To try to avoid this, please follow some of the steps below:
- How to order – place your order using the Qkr! app or write on a paper bag and send the order in with your child.
- Order on the app and confirm the date that you have selected is for the day you require.
- If your child is selecting the food please check it before you confirm the order (we now need to limit garlic bread to students as some were ordering up to 10 in one order)
- If your child is absent and no longer is required to receive the order please cancel prior to 8:30am on the day of order.
You can receive a Qkr credit note if you tap on the 3 lines at the top left of the home screen, select ‘my receipts’ and then select the order you wish to cancel. - If your child doesn’t have a lunch and they realise before 10:00am a phone call will be made to parents to ask them to bring lunch to school for them.
If you are unable we will provide your child with a basic sandwich (vegemite or cheese) and an IOU envelope will be sent home. - IOU’s - if your child brings home an IOU envelope please either return the envelope with cash payment or alternatively you can pay for it via Qkr using the “Canteen Outstanding Amounts”
- If you are unaware of the amount currently outstanding to your child please email canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au and we can advise.
- There is a limit of $10 for over the counter purchases. Please do not send your child in with more than this as we will not accept $50 or $20 notes.
If you need to contact the school about lunch orders, please email canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au or contact the school office 4821 3510 before 9:30 am.
If you are able to volunteer in the canteen please contact the office or email the canteen.sjglb@cg.catholic.edu.au with your availability.
